چکیده

The problem of controlling an integral process with dead time is addressed in this paper. In particular, various practical issues concerned with the controller implementation are discussed and then verified with experiments carried out on a laboratory-scale setup where a level control problem is concerned. A comparison with a standard Proportional-Integral (PI) controller is also performed.

Control of integral processes with dead time Part IV: various issues about PI controllers

Various issues about integral processes with dead time controlled by a PI controller are discussed. First, the region of the control parameters to guarantee the system stability is characterised. Then, the control parameters to achieve the given gain and/or phase margins (GPM) are determined. Furthermore, the constraint on achievable GPM is derived. These results are obtained on the basis of th...

An ANOVA Based Analytical Dynamic Matrix Controller Tuning Procedure for FOPDT Models

Dynamic Matrix Control (DMC) is a widely used model predictive controller (MPC) in industrial plants. The successful implementation of DMC in practical applications requires a proper tuning of the controller. The available tuning procedures are mainly based on experience and empirical results. This paper develops an analytical tool for DMC tuning. It is based on the application of Analysis of V...

On the Stability of an Event-based PI Controller for FOPDT processes

This paper deals with the stability of an event-based proportional-integral controller. In particular, necessary and sufficient conditions on the controller parameters for the existence of equilibrium points without limit cycles are given for a first-order-plus-dead-time process. Practical issues related to the controller implementation are also addressed. The presented conditions enable a simp...

Adaptive Tuning of Model Predictive Control Parameters based on Analytical Results

In dealing with model predictive controllers (MPC), controller tuning is a key design step. Various tuning methods are proposed in the literature which can be categorized as heuristic, numerical and analytical methods. Among the available tuning methods, analytical approaches are more interesting and useful. This paper is based on a proposed analytical MPC tuning approach for plants can be appr...

Design of Controllers for Higher-Order-plus-Delay-Time Processes: A Practical Solution

In this paper, a simple design method of proportional-integral (PI) controllers is proposed for higher order (HO)-plus delay time (HOPDT) processes. This controller is designed to handle higher order processes with long dead times, long time constants, and monotonic or oscillatory responses. The method is based on the real and imaginary values of the higher order processes for the desired settl...
